SPORTS INJURIES AND ITS CAUSES -: It is common for sports injuries to occur while participating in sports activities. It is natural to feel hurt in the game; any player gets injured during training or competition because there is hardly any player who is not injured during the game. That is why nowadays sports trainers, sports teachers and doctors related to that sport are trying a lot to protect themselves from sports injuries. It is not possible to get rid of sports injuries completely, but the cause of sports injuries can be reduced to a great extent.
Sports and injury
SPORTS INJURIES are related to each other. From a practical point of view, there is no game in which the player is not likely to get hurt during the game. Apart from this, the extent of injuries cannot be determined. An injury to a player during the game damages both his mental and physical dimensions. As modern techniques have developed in the game, the chances of injury in the game have also increased. Therefore, it is very important in the field of physical education to know the cause of injury, sports injury prevention measures, and its correct treatment, etc., so that the pressure on sportspersons due to sports injuries can be removed. All the people of the world are involved with sports in one way or the other and it is common to have injuries during the game, in which some injuries are minor, some are serious and some injuries are so serious that the player has to live with him all his life. It would not be wrong to say that all the games do not incur the same type of injuries, but some special things should be kept in mind that the players should use the necessary safety equipment while playing; the players must be properly adapted before participating in the game. , Scientific knowledge can also be helpful in sports.
THE NATURE OF INJURY
Injuries have been divided into two types based on their nature.
INTERNAL INJURIES-: which occur to the player due to internal causes, such as strain, sprain, muscle cramp, etc., which are directly related to physical efficiency.
EXTERNAL INJURIES-: which are caused by external reasons, such as injuries from sports equipment or injuries to your opponent in contact games like -: judo, rugby, karate, boxing, etc
THERE ARE GENERALLY TWO TYPES OF SPORTS INJURY
SOFT TISSUE INJURY
HARD TISSUE INJURY
SOFT TISSUE INJURY-
Soft tissue injury is that injury which occurs in the soft tissues in the body rather than the harder bones, like muscles, ligament, tendons, etc. Its causes by a sudden trauma or overuse occur to muscles, tendons, or ligaments. There are two types of soft tissue injury Complex trauma[Acute injury] and Microtrauma [overuse injury].
1. MICRO TRAUMA [OVERUSE INJURY] –
Micro Trauma consists of recurring injuries, which have a long duration, this type of injury occurs because of training errors and techniques while performing in sports. A series of small injuries to immature bodies can cause a minor fracture, bone deformities, muscle tear, or overstretch knee injury, Tennis elbow is the best example of microtrauma injury, which we also call overuse injuries in other languages. It leads to:-
- TENDINITIS [Inflamation in tendons]
- BURSITIS [small sacs of fluid between bones and soft tissues which reduce friction got inflamed due to overpressure on joints]
2. COMPLEX TRAUMA [ACUTE INJURY] –
Acute injuries are caused by sudden trauma. These are mainly of three types of Acute injury which are- STRAIN, SPRAIN, and CONTUSION. It involves a partial or complete rupture of the ligament, strain muscles or tendon, and contusion. It includes sudden and sharp injuries, such as getting hurt after jumping in basketball, getting hit by a ball in baseball or cricket. This type of injury is common in almost all sports due to which Strain, sprain, contusion, etc. are also called acute injuries because it is short-term and fresh injuries.
HARD TISSUE INJURY
Hard tissue injury is those injuries that include fracture and dislocation in the bones and joints of the body.
- Fracture– simple, Greenstick, compound, impacted, and comminuted.
- Dislocation– shoulder dislocation, Radio humeral joint injury, Ankle dislocation, Knee cap dislocation, Finger dislocation.
IMPORTANCE OF STUDY SPORTS INJURY IN PHYSICAL EDUCATION
TO REDUCE CHANCES OF SPORTS INJURIES
In various sports, the doctor is well informed about the various capabilities of the players and the shortcomings related to the measurement of sports injuries i.e. sports injuries, keeping in mind that the player participates in training and sports competition is alert to injuries.
TREATMENT AND REHABILITATION
Various medical methods are adopted for sports injuries and they also provide rehabilitation arrangements to the players. Such as – Ultraviolet, Electrotherapy, Infrared, Caro therapy, hydrotherapy, Massage, etc.
TO MEASURE EFFICIENCY THE INDIVIDUAL
We measure the efficiency of players by studying sports injuries, physical efficiency of players, efficiency and condition of internal organs, etc. Following are some points of absolute efficiency, which are measured with the help of this study and science – compensation period, fitness, muscle performance, restoration status, etc.
CAUSES OF SPORTS INJURIES:-
The probability of injury varies in all sports, depending on the nature of the game.
Improper conditioning -if an individual comes from a hot climate region and has to play in a cold environment his body will not adapt to the atmosphere easily where the chances of injury are increases.
Overuse of muscles- During the competition, the player’s muscles get very tired but he continues his game continuously so that his muscles do not get rest, which increases the risk of injury. Such as ankle sprain, muscle cramp, etc.
Unscientific way of training- Chances of sports injury are increased even after training in an unscientific way. Because of the absence of proper techniques and skills, muscles are not able to adjust themselves which is a big reason for sports injuries.
Practice during the stage of fatigue– After excessive exhaustion, there is a lack of oxygen in the body, due to which fatigue is felt in the muscles, and the risk of sports injury is increased due to overtraining.
Carelessness during game and sports activities
Improper warming up before training or competition- Warm-up is his most important part of any sport. Before playing any sport, it is very important to warm up its general and specific so that the chances of getting a sports injury can be reduced.
Nutritional deficiency- Due to lack of proper food intake, the balanced diet is not available according to the needs of the body, due to which a sufficient amount of energy is not available during training and the chances of getting a sports injury is increased.
Lack of sports facilities- There is also the risk of sports injury due to players not getting good facilities like the proper kit, good ground, good trainer, and infrastructure
